We were in Spokane, WA for Pride this year and it is such a lovely welcoming city. We used to own our home on the north side of the city and it is always a joy to return to.
My eldest and I identify on the LGBTQIA spectrum (they are non-binary and I am panromantic) and my youngest and spouse and strong allies. June is a fun but also important month of awareness as many places here in the USA are not accepting to our identities. To say this does not factor into our travel choices would be a lie.
Change is happening. Not as fast as I would want, particularly for my children, but those of us who are LGBTQIA adults and parents and allies need to be strong advocates so that the next generations might not know the discrimination and hatred we and our elders have had to endure for our right to exist and be known.
Today is the third anniversary of Pulse. This year heralds the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. We cannot forget and we must work for the change we wish to see in the world.
